PNINS travels to Tui Ridge in Rotorua for their major camp biannually

2024 is not a school camp year.

In previous years we have taken students to Tui Ridge Camp, details can be found on the following website:

www.tuiridgepark.co.nz

See our information below for what to expect in 2025.

ACTIVITIES

While we are at Tui Ridge, students are encouraged to try a variety of activities that will be challenging for them. Each student is encouraged to give every activity a go - to try and push past their comfort levels, in a supportive environment. Each activity in camp is supervised by a trained instructor who is experienced in giving participants the best experience possible.

The activities that are being provided in camp over two days are:

  • High ropes

  • Flying Fox

  • Archery Attack

  • Giant Swing

  • Slingshot Paintball

  • Bubble Soccer

  • Abseiling

  • Air Rifles

On one day of the camp, students will travel into Rotorua for a day of other activities.

These activities are:

  • A visit to the Redwoods forest, including a tree walk to look at these amazing trees and discover some history of the area

  • A visit to Te Puia Geothermal Park, including:

⚬ A tour of the thermal park - geysers and mudpools

    ⚬ Kiwi house

⚬ National Weaving and National Carving Institution tour

    ⚬ Cultural performance

In all activities students are encouraged to push themselves to their comfort levels and try something new. They will always be supported by their teachers, parent helpers and instructors, as well as by their peers.

Every activity that students participate in are covered by Risk and Assessment Management forms (RAMs) forms. A link to these forms can be found on Tui Ridge’s website or on the school’s website.

In Camp - Tui Ridge

 TRAVELLING TO CAMP

All students travel to camp by Transit bus, leaving school at around 8.30am on Monday morning and returning on Friday afternoon.

On the way to camp, the bus will stop at the AC Baths (hot pools) in Taupo for a swim.

COST OF CAMP

The approximate cost of camp is $500 per student. This cost covers travel to and from camp, accommodation, food and all activities.

Parent helpers will be charged $250.

Camp can be paid for at any stage prior to students leaving for camp. This gives the option of paying in smaller instalments at a time. Please contact the school office if you wish to start making payment for 2025 camp.

PARENT HELPERS

Camp cannot happen without parents being willing to come to support students. PNINS requires an adult:student ratio of 1:6. This means that for 4 class teams we are asking for 20 parents to come and for a 3 class team (Tangaroa) we need 16 parents.

Parents work hard at camp. They are required to support a group of 6 students as they undertake a number of activities that they find challenging. It is important to know that while you may be in charge of a group including your child, you are responsible for supervising and supporting all of the students in your group.

Parents are selected on the basis of skills that they have. These may include prior experiences at camp, outdoor expertise or pastoral care. Please be thorough in letting your teachers know of the skills that you bring to camp.

All parents attending camp are required to be Police Vetted. Once you have been selected, you will be provided with Police Vetting forms which will need to be returned as soon as possible as this process can take up to 6 weeks
